A guide for New
Testament historical-critical exegesis written for students who know Greek, but
with much of the guide accessible to students without knowledge of Greek. The
guide describes steps of exegesis with the goal of writing an exegesis paper
and also gives a shorter series of steps for sermon preparation. The use of
resources for the study of the NT is included in the description of the steps,
with a final chapter giving a bibliography of resources organized according to
the exegetical step in which the resource would be used. (Introduction)

REF
BS2331.2 .H37 1979 v.1
An introduction
to the basic methods used in the study of the New Testament. "The
expositions of the methods focus on the questions to be asked of the biblical
text and on what can be legitimately expected as answers to these questions.
Usually some indications are provided about the origin and development of the
methods and about the broader theological and historical problems raised by
them." Sample applications of each method are included and brief
bibliographies of works published in English follow each chapter.

"This
excellent lexicon, mainly devoted to classical Greek, frequently includes
references to the LXX and the NT. It is especially useful for tracing the early
history of a NT word or for determining its etymology." Fitzmyer
"The
Greek-English Lexicon of Liddell and Scott was first published in 1843 ... it
has gone through nine editions, the last being augmented by a Supplement
published in 1968 ... Much new material has become available since the
publication of the first Supplement and the incorporation of this is again the
main aim of the new Supplement."--Pref.

The
second English edition has utilized much of the new material that Bauer
introduced into his 5th ed. and added some other material gathered by the present
editors. The Bauer lexicon's "value lies in the attempt to give succinctly
the history of the Greek word, indicating its terminus a quo in Greek
literature, its use in the LXX, papyri, and later Greek, as well as the NT
occurrences themselves. Abundant bibliographical references to articles and
books on the word concerned are also supplied."Fitzmyer

which are listed at the beginning of each domain section. The Greek lexical
forms with their definitions are listed under the subdomain headings. The
